Timm and
I just wanted to let you know how wonderful things have been since
we adopted Sierra (formerly Augustana). She is a sweetheart. She
loves to cuddle and play and she listens very well. In just a week
she sits and comes when called. She is getting much better with
jumping up on the counters too. Logan and Keyser love her. Logan
(my other female husky) and her sleep together at night. Keyser
still likes to be top dog, but the girls keep him in check. Thank -
you again for everything. I'm sooooo happy we adopted Sierra. She
is a wonderful addition to our family.

Lenovo (now Tassy) is doing just great. Just wanted to send
these pictures to keep you informed. She is just a great girl &
has made friends at the vets already. She gave Dr. Lindstrom a
gentle kiss right away even after he drew her blood. We are just
so thankful to have her. She even lays with her legs crossed
like Butchie, Marissa & Kayo. Thanks so much for saving her for
us.

Please find attached the photo of Sierra I sent to Channel 5
weatherman, Brant Miller, back on January 15th and which he
aired on the 10 pm newscast. Funny thing is, Sierra usually
heads back to the bedroom and goes to bed way before I do. That
night however, she stayed with me in the living room ... it was
like she knew! And she watched herself on television, it was so
cool!

Sadie (formerly Kathy Lee) is doing great. She loves to be
with us all the time. She sure does like to play but is
happy to just lie around and watch TV with us too. She
notices things on TV like animals and if a ball or animal
will go past the edge of the TV screen Sadie looks for it
beside or behind the TV. She is doing very well with house
training. She knows what to do when she goes out and is
starting to take us to the door to go outside. When she
needs to go out we go to the back door and she sits and
waits till she gets her leash on. The only thing is, she is
sooo curious that as soon as she sees or hears anything she
may forget what she is outside to do. Sadie is a fast
learner. She knows sit, shake with each hand, will lay down
(pretty good) & wait. Sadie loves to play. She enjoys tug a
war and will play hide and seek. Mornings are fun. After she
gets out of the crate and goes outside she loves to jump up
on the bed and great you with Husky kisses and be petted.
When you get home (or even if you were just outside for a
while) she will greet you like a long lost friend. She
definitely has all puppy energy and is a real treat to have
as part of our family.

So
hard to believe people would abandon such a sweet, loving little
girl. As Sadie mature she will only get better and better. We
have been watching Rachel and hope she can find a home soon too.
Dealing with Adopt A Husky and getting Sadie has been a great
experience thank you very much and keep up the good work you do.
Bless you.

Hi, we've been home a week now! I think Lakota (formerly
Excel) is adapting well. He runs & runs with Sasha & wears
her out. I monitor them all the time so they don't get too
carried away--they both seem to want to be Top Dog,but they
each release the balls or other toys easily. My other
huskies don't pay him too much attention. He comes for
treats & licks your hand, but retreats if you try to come up
to him. He's been pretty good in the house, although he
already stole a leftover pork chop when I turned my back! I
think we're doing well for only a week!

Hi all,
My new name is now “Sepp”. I was surrendered
to a shelter and Adopt-A-Husky had me for about 5 weeks before I found a new
home. Yup, I wasn’t too sure about several potential families that visited
but when Karen and Jim showed up I just knew this was the family for me. So
I wagged my tail and gave both of them kisses right off.
Then they introduced me to their other two
dogs. Both of them are German Shorthair Pointers. Toby is a 1 ½ year old
while Madeline is 9 ½. Both of them were rescues, too. They were “ok” (I
really liked my soon to be folks a whole lot better) but I was polite, and
eagerly went home with them. When we got to my new house, Mom and Dad said
I “stunk” so I got a brushing and bath right away, yuck – however I did feel
and looked a whole lot better.
My first couple
of days were a bit rough as this “Toby” guy quickly realized I was not just
a visitor and was going to be a permanent resident. My folks said his “nose
got out of joint”. Funny, I never saw it move at all. Anyway, after a few
altercations, Mom took charge and things settled down. My new people Mom
growls and snaps just like my Husky Mom used to do so we all pay attention.
I learned the
first night how to go up stairs. Dad had to almost carry me up the first
time because I was scared of them but I showed him how brave I was and how
quick I learn because in a half hour, I was able to go up and down all by
myself. I did have a bit of a behavior problem when food was around. I did
not know anything about “sharing” or “waiting my turn”. After two days of
having Mom hold me back (with all her strength (I’m stronger than I look
when food is at stake), I learned that food was coming my way too so I now
politely wait. I have been told that I am smart and pick up on things very
quickly. I even showed them I can chew up a tennis ball in less than 15
minutes. This Toby guy simply uses them to play “fetch”! Can you believe
that? |

Well, it has been a month now, and I am
really enjoying this new home. I have a big fenced in yard and thereare
squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits to chase. I even caught a couple of
toads (but had to give them back). Maddie and Toby told me that we have
even had a wild turkey in the yard and there were two deer and a red fox
in the front prairie the other day. Man O man. By the way, what is aturkey?
Anyway, we go for walks on a golf course every morning and evening. I
go to work with them every day and we go for walks there too! I am
still a big beggar for food, but can’t even come close to trying for a
world record in “counter surfing”. My older sister, Madeline, is the
Grand Champion when it comes to that. Both Mom and Dad say none of us
should counter surf in the first place. They also told me I shouldn’t
steal food off their plates (when they aren’t looking). Hey, a dog’s
gotta do what a dog’s gotta do - can’t always be perfect. Mom says we
are all “characters”.
Thanks to Adopt-A-Husky, I have a new
forever home. And, as you can see by the photos, I have even come to be
“best buds” with Toby. You know what? He likes me, too! We “talk and
play and chase” and “chase and play and talk”. Then we take naps
together. I’m still working on Madeline, but she is playing hard to
get. Women!
Love,
Sepp (formerly Wyse)

Astaire (Voyager) and Ginger (Holle) have really become the light of my
life. Just over a year ago I lost my longtime buddy, Tyler (14yo). A
couple of weeks later, I found myself on the Petfinder.com site and the
first dog I saw was Astaire. I knew from that moment, he had to come home
with me. A little over a week later, there he was sticking his head between
the seats, happy as can be, riding back to Chicago with me. We bonded over
obedience classes and there were many times that I just couldn't believe how
fortunate I was to have found such a great buddy. Immense appreciation
compelled me to
|
become an Adopt A Husky Volunteer. I have
had the opportunity to meet many of the fosters at various events that I
have worked and that fed the desire for Astaire to have his Ginger. I
decided to foster a petite little red and white ball of energy. She
very quickly stole my heart and became the Ginger that Astaire and I
were looking for. Astaire and Ginger are very much opposites. Astaire
is mellow kisser that likes his space at times and Ginger is a devilish
ball of mischievous energy that has to be the constant center of
attention. They are each other's chew toy and hate to be apart. Astaire
has begun to compete in Rally with me and Ginger and I love to run some
of that crazy energy off in Agility Class. I want to thank all of the
Adopt A Husky Volunteers/Friends that have helped me create this
incredible fun and fur filled family.
