Hike FAQ

Q. Online registration is closed and I didn’t register; can I still come to the hike?

A. Yes you may register at the hike that morning.

Q. I have already registered online however some of my family/friends have decided that they would like to join me but registration is closed; can they still come to the hike and what should I do?

A. Everyone who registered online must check-in that day. Everyone who didn’t register online must fill out a registration form that morning at the Registration Tent.

Q. Do I still need to check-in at the registration table if I pre-registered?

A. Yes everyone attending the hike must check in at the registration table including all volunteers.

Q. Is there a registration fee to attend this hike?

A. Yes, there is a $20 minimum donation per person (16 and older) which includes a goody bag and lunch. Each person raising $50 or more will receive a Husky Hike t-shirt.

Q. Will I receive a confirmation if I registered online?

A. Yes, a confirmation email will be sent to everyone who provided a valid email address approximately a week before the hike.

VOLUNTEERING

Q. How can I volunteer at the hike?

A. Click on the link that says Volunteer Signup. Fill in all of the information on the page including the areas and timeslots you would prefer to work. NOTE: Every effort will be made to ensure you work in your selected area; however some areas and timeslots fill quicker than others so we appreciate your understanding if we ask for your assistance in another area.

Q. Do I still need to register if I already signed up to volunteer?

A. Yes, the registration and volunteer forms are handled by separate areas and therefore you must sign up in both places so we can get an accurate count for food and t-shirts.

Q. What do I do with my dog when I am volunteering?

A. You must bring a wire or airline crate to put your dog in when you are volunteering your shift. There will be a special crating area behind registration where all volunteer’s dogs will be crated and monitored throughout the entire hike. NOTE: If your dog has separation anxiety or can’t be crated under certain conditions please let us know so we can work with you on providing the best situation to make everyone comfortable.

FOSTER DOGS

Q. Will there be foster dogs at the hike to be walked?

A. Yes although the number varies from year to year.

Q. How can I walk a foster dog at the hike?

A. After you have checked-in at registration you must go to the foster dog tent before 10:00am where your name will be put on a list to walk a foster dog. This list will be on a first come first served basis so the earlier you sign up the better your chances are of walking one of our foster dogs. NOTE: You must be an adult, or at least 16 years old and accompanied by an adult.

Q. How long can I keep my foster dog at the hike?

A. You may pick up your foster dog anytime after 10:00am and will be able to keep them until approximately 1:00pm.

OTHER DOG QUESTIONS

Q. Can I bring my dog even though I didn’t adopt him through Adopt A Husky?

A. Yes you may bring your dog as long as it is well mannered and not aggressive around other dogs. However we request that small breeds stay at home since this event is attended by larger breed dogs.

Q. I own two dogs and will be coming by myself; can I bring and walk them together?

A. Yes, there are several people who own multiple dogs and walk them together.

Q. What do I do with my dog when I am volunteering?

MISCELLANEOUS

Q. Can I attend the hike if I am under 16 years old?

A. Yes, you may attend but you must have a parent or guardian accompanying you.

Q. I would like to attend the hike but I can’t. Is there a way that I can still contribute?

A. Yes, you can be a satellite hiker. You can still collect pledges and then hike in your own area. Then mail your pledge sheet along with the check(s) to Adopt A Husky, Inc., P.O. Box 87226, Carol Stream, IL 60188-7226.

Q. What should I do if I collected pledges but was unable to attend the hike?

A. Mail your pledge sheet along with the check(s) to Adopt A Husky, Inc., P.O. Box 87226, Carol Stream, IL 60188-7226.

Q. Do I have to hike because I registered and showed up?

A. No. Nobody is required to hike. If you feel that either you or your dog cannot hike for whatever reason please do not feel like you should hike. Everyone’s safety is our main concern.

Q. Is there a hotel nearby that I can stay at the night before?

A. There are several hotels that are located within 10 minutes of the hike site. Please confirm with the hotel to verify their pet policy hasn’t changed before making a reservation.

Q. How long is the hike?

A. The actual trail for the hike is approximately 3 miles long however there is a shorter trail for puppies (6 months and younger), older dogs and people who can’t walk as far that is less than 2 miles.

Q. What is the surface of the hike site?

A. The trail consists mostly of a limestone path however there is a grass trail and wooden planked bridge before the limestone trail is reached. The actual hike site consists of mostly grass with some limestone and cement.

Q. What is the schedule for the day of the hike?

A. Registration/check-in: 9:15am – 10:30am

• Silent Auction (selling one-of-a-kind Husky merchandise): 9:30am – 1:00pm
• Guidelines and presentation items: 10:30am
• Moment of Silence: 10:55am
• Hike start: 11:00am
• Lunch begins: 12:00pm
• Prize announcements (highest amount collected, etc.): 1:15pm
• Throughout the day (9:15am – 1:30pm) we will have a variety of demonstrations, games for the dogs, multiple vendors, nail trimming, grooming, photographers, animal communicators, etc.
